MV Review- SISTAR's "I Swear"

It's been just over a month since SISTAR returned and stormed the digital charts with their mini album "Touch & Move". Now that the lead single "Touch My Body" has lost momentum other artists have overtook the top spot, namely Winner and their debut single which I couldn't be bothered to review. Not content with this, SISTAR are back to punish those who dared try overthrow them with "I Swear".

"I Swear" is another summer smash from the girl group, and whilst not as unforgivably snappy as "Touch My Body" it's still fantastic, if very predictable. It's all very basic SISTAR fare: brassy instruments play an upbeat tune whilst backing Hyorin's voice as she sings 60% of the song, Soyu sings the breathier parts in the pre-chorus and bridge, Bora delivers an alright rap that switches up the pace a bit and Dasom sings a line or two to remind people she still exists. So it's nothing new from the girls but it's still incredibly put together and certainly of a higher standard than most summer songs in K-Pop, and I daresay it even beats their earlier single.

Dasom had no sexy (read:butt) shots so netizens can't
say they're all filthy whores. Smart thinking, Starship!
Most summer videos fall into the trap of looking rushed and randomly thrown together in that where there would usually at least be a very simple plot instead we get random scenes of members by the pool/in a car/frolicking in the sun as well as dance and solo shots and it comes off as busy and haphazard. SISTAR manages to subvert this in that all these random scenes are shown in an order that at least makes sense as the girls all go on a summer holiday and go swimming and the camera shows many many close ups of Bora's legs because Starship know their members' assets all too well.

All.
Too.
Aware.
All in all, "I Swear" really is a gift to Star1s, with a great song that's textbook SISTAR and a glorious MV chock-full on fanservice. It hasn't been as big of a hit as their previous singles but personally I'd say it just edges past "Touch My Body" and may be more or less on par with "Loving U". SISTAR have delivered yet again with a slightly predictable but still enjoyable song that more than meets the high standards of previous singles.
