Last week VIXX returned with their second mini album "Error", and the eponymous title track is by far their strongest yet.
Not to say their previous singles have all been rubbish, but I certainly did not expect something so flawless from VIXX. The song is both desperate and emotional, fleeting and heavy as the lyrics deals with the heartbreak of letting go of someone you love with a dynamic and electric backing track. I was going to write "The elements don't clash, they blend", but they don't do either. The track floats between deep and hollow, and the emptiness created is truly beautiful. VIXX definitely deliver vocally this time as well: with Leo and D.O. 2.0 Ken nailing the drawn out lines of the chorus and N filling out the verses. The eerie breaths and Hyuk quietly singing "Set me free" and "Let me breathe" in between lines add to the atmosphere of the song and not even a lengthy rap break from Ravi can detract from the song (in fact it really wasn't half bad).
*gasp* Hongbin's shirtless! What a SLUT! I came here to watch K-POP not PORN!!
How cheap, he's just seeking attention! >:((
No Youngji stay away from slutty Hongbin! He belongs in the bin for being such a whore!!
The video's pretty good as well, showing the members as cyborgs in what looks like some kind of spaceship/science lab/futuristic prison you'd expect to see in a Metroid game. The plot shows Cyborg Hongbin trying to re-install co-star KARA's Youngji's memories of the couple. He succeeds and they're very happy but then people in suits bust out of NOWHERE to inject something into Youngji and apparently she's illegal (I think it means the memories now inside her are illegal). Hongbin overpowers the four guards, grabs Youngji then runs away with her into the lab and they both get melded into a steel heart so they'll always be together. Yes, it confused me too.
Ravi's strange hat just reminds me of that Futurama episode where Fry can read people's minds.
Obligatory dance shots are woven in as well as solo shots showing the members in horrendous makeup in an attempt to look like robots. I'm not exaggerating, they really are horrifying. Even so, the video is certainly outstanding visually thanks to use of saturated colours and lights that scan across the sets as if they're searchlights. The dance shots are also pretty interesting: from the members pumping electricity into N, to some weird robot run/glide thing in the chorus, to all of them short-circuiting themselves at the end. It's kind of a shame the video's 80% Hongbin because the dance really is good but fans should still get plenty of shots of their bias (unless it's Hyuk, in which case you're rather stuck).
Leo looks particularly creepy, even bordering on the uncanny valley.
VIXX have leapt up in popularity over the past year and don't seem to be stopping any time soon. If they continue to release music of this quality then I'm quickly going to become a big fan.
