MV Review- f(x)'s "Red Light"

IT'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE.

*ahem* Yes, after a week of non-stop teasers and previews f(x) have finally returned and now we shall bask in their glory.
And they've returned with a dark and strange video.
The members look almost robotic in some parts, which only added to the effect.

The song is good. Really Good. But also weird. I don't mean like f(x)'s usual oddball style shown in "Danger" and "Rum Pum Pum Pum" with strange whistling...things in the background. I don't even know how to describe it but it's unusual even for f(x).Whilst it doesn't have the fastest beat, the song stops for nothing, jerking to the next section of the song and not leaving any breathing room. It's disorientating, but not too fractured. The girls all have their fair share of lines as well so none of them aren't out of the spotlight for long, and Amber actually sings this time which is nice since she's a much better singer than rapper. I'm not sure what other fans think about the song but personally I think it's pretty great and whilst it isn't a guaranteed hit as "Electric Shock" I don't see why this won't go straight up the charts.
Victoria looks gorgeous as always.
But this time Sulli looks even better.
Amazingly, the teasers actually had relevance to the video, which is full of artsy shots of the members in empty locations mixed with dance shots with only their silhouettes visible or of them in camo outfits (I've somehow only just noticed how tall Sulli is compared to the other members). Unlike other f(x) videos the choreography shots aren't dominant, so fans will be happy they aren't just dancing in a box and nothing else (but they'll instead complain that there isn't enough dancing shown because kpop fans are so fickle). Honestly the only thing I don't like about the video is the obnoxious jewellery Victoria and Krystal wear, except for that the outfits and special effects used are really good and it's a nice change for an f(x) video.

Aff(x)tionates can whine all they want about f(x) not being treated well by SM, but in my opinion this video proves the opposite. They're the only group in SM that actually do something different; no other SM artist could do a song like this and then pull it off as well as these girls, and the artsy, almost eerie solo shots in the video fit their style so well. No they won't get the SNSD treatment since they're a different group, and they don't even need to be the biggest group since they're floating around the top tier at the moment anyway.

"Red Light" may well be an acquired taste and not as catchy as some of their previous earworms, but if the rest of the album is as good as this song then "Red Light" as an album will easily surpass "Pink Tape" and be the best release by any group this year.
