MV Review- SISTAR's "Touch My Body"

It's been over a year since SISTAR smashed the digital charts and bagged multiple music show wins with "Give It To Me" and now they're back with the summer song "Touch My Body".

It's safe to say the group are now one of the top girl groups in K-Pop, and I might even argue they're now at 2NE1's level (Blackjacks please don't kill me), with each member gaining public recognition: Hyorin has already had a solo album and multiple OSTs, Soyu has been paired with Mad Clown and Junggigo in hit songs, Bora is a host on Music Bank and Dasom is was the lead role in the drama "Melody of Love". "Touch My Body" achieved an all-kill within two hours of release so you know they've come back with gold this time.

And gold it is. "Touch My Body" doesn't go the sophisticated, silky route as "Alone" and "Give It To Me" did, instead it's just fun, energetic and perfect for the season. The airy, floaty singing of the members gives the song a lighter feeling that contrasts the energetic instrumentation featuring an awfully catchy saxophone motif that's more likely to stick in your head than the actual singing. Bora's not exactly the strongest rapper and her parts tend to get shoehorned in but here she provides a small break from the breathy tones of the vocalists and prevents the song from getting stale. It's a fresh and breezy track that's certain to make a splash.

Speaking of fresh, the music video is just as entertaining as the song. From Dasom playing guitar on top of a washing machine, to Hyorin dancing with a silicone spatula in a kitchen, to a huge indoor party with some guy riding a miniature car, the video's full of goofy and funny shots that complement the lighthearted song. Even the choreography's silly this time; it's full of hip wiggles, knocking knees together and a point move that looks like they're trying to shake off toilet roll that's stuck to their shoe, which is an...interesting conclusion, to say the least, but it's certainly memorable and fits in with the daft video.

Now I would like to take a moment and point out the real star of the show this time. After being overshadowed for years by the others, here she enjoys plenty of screen time, a decent amount of lines (and by the sound of it she's actually improved her singing), fun scenes and the best styling in the video. Dasom, you deserved this more than any other. Well done.

Dasom really is "so nice~" in this comeback.

A lot of people are disappointed with "Touch My Body", and I agree that it doesn't hit the heights of some of their previous hits. But once they get over the "Waaaah it isn't as good as Give It To Me" phase they'll discover a thoroughly entertaining comeback of a remarkably high standard, just as expected from the Mighty SISTAR.
